How we work

Our ultimate goal is to ensure the ability of the earth to nurture life in all its diversity. To achieve this, we work in a wide range of ways - from taking direct action and bearing witness to scientific research on solutions, improving public understanding of global ecology, and working with policy-makers and industry to affect change. Underlying all of our work is a fundamental commitment to non-violence, political independence, integrity and internationalism.
Scientific research
Our dedicated science unit provides scientific expertise and analytical support to campaign teams around the world, helping them to identify potential environmental threats and to provide permanent solutions to them.
Political work
To win our campaigns, we need to identify who has the power to affect change and lobby them to make those changes. Our political unit works across all parties to ensure that environmental issues are at the top of the political agenda.
Greenpeace Business
We think it's vital to open a channel of communication between environmentalists and industry, so Greenpeace Business explains environmental problems and how they relate to industry in the language of business - through lectures, newsletters and showcasing economically and environmentally sustainable solutions.
Greenpeace Environmental Trust
The Greenpeace Environmental Trust is a registered charity that aims to improve public understanding of global ecology. Through investigations and educational initiatives, the Trust provides resources to assess the impact of human activity on the natural world.
Greenpeace ships
The Rainbow Warrior is just one of a fleet of three Greenpeace ships that allow us to bear witness to environmental destruction in remote and otherwise inaccessible parts of the world. From pursuing whalers to blockading ships carrying hazardous cargoes, our ships play a central role in our campaigns.
Our environmental footprint
Finally, we know that achieving positive change through action applies to us too - so we constantly work to reduce our own environmental impact. From lowering carbon emissions to using recycled paper, our environmental policy sets high standards to meet in the work that we do.
