Helping Greenpeace get greener

As organisations go you can imagine that Greenpeace would be keen to practice what they preach and ensure that their own operations are as environmentally friendly as possible. So to help along the 'greening' of the UK office I'm the 'Energy Intern' for Greenpeace UK.

At the moment I'm looking into energy and gas use within the office and helping to design and implement a system for monitoring their energy usage and carbon footprint. With the overall aim being for Greenpeace to reduce their impact on the environment year on year and maybe one day become carbon neutral!

As part of the project I'm also researching changes that can be made to the Greenpeace building to improve its environmental performance. They already use a number of 'green' technologies in the building so it's interesting researching new technologies and especially for an organisation that is so open to change.

It's great feeling part of such a forward thinking place and as an intern I'm getting to do some good research and gain valuable experience which I hope will help me to find some interesting work opportunities in the future.

If you're looking for help with introducing energy-saving measures at Greenpeace, please take a look at the Energy Saving Trust website: http://www.energysavingtrust.org.uk/

Certainly you should look into smart metering and insulation. But do take some time to look around the site as it offers loads of advice on energy-saving practices at work and in everyday life.

Good luck with the internship.
