This will be my fifth year working in the Human Resources department, and doesn't time fly when you're having fun.
Funnily enough I didn't intend to end up in HR. In fact I studied zoology and fancied myself as the next David Attenborough. But alas, I ended up here and I don't think I could have found a better place to work. The most excited I've ever been was when David himself walked into our café for lunch!
I have the pleasure of working with extremely dedicated, passionate people and no one day is the same as the next. No matter what department you work in you can get involved with campaigning and taking action. Within my first few months of starting here I found myself chained to a Range Rover for eight hours. Certainly a unique way to be inducted into a job!
In my role as HR Adviser and along with the two other members of my team, I get involved with recruiting new staff, organising and developing staff training, and developing and updating staff policies and procedures. We also have various projects going on at any one time, very recently we implemented a new annual staff review scheme and soon we will be developing our annual training plan, renewing our recruitment procedures - the list goes on!
Part of my role involves looking after our volunteers here in the office. They do such great work for us and it's always great to give people an opportunity to come in and help. You can get more information about volunteering here.
Currently I'm working on implementing internship programmes here in our London office. This is a brand new programme and we hope it will enable people to come in and gain the vital skills and experience they need to work within the environmental sector. If you are interested in this please keep your eye on the current vacancies section where information about opportunities will be posted.
So working in HR at Greenpeace is certainly not all tea and biscuits - although we do always tend to have a good supply!
