Glastonbury: climate change megamix in the Techno-Dome
Posted by tracy on 12 June 2007.
More detail are reaching us about what will be happening in the Greenpeace field at Glastonbury. The Techno-Dome is a 30-metre geodesic dome that will house an explosion of audio visual artists and performers to boldly go into the future to show us what climate change could mean in this rapidly changing landscape that we are already witnessing. Early morning sessions will be a show and tell of climate change (the theme of this year's Glastonbury, with everyone being asked to sign up to I Count) through films and animation.
The evening shows will kick off with a taste of the next 1 Giant Leap music video diary and talk about their search for 'the unity in the diversity' with Jamie Catto (from Faithless) and Duncan Bridegman. Here's the current line up, but we will be updating this up until the festival kicks off (you know how these things are!).

The UK's native environment too
I have had to battle on my own to remove from a 2 acre site an illegally over-expanded Caravan and Camping Club site in Woodhall Spa Lincs. So far their damage has included tree felling and damage to protected hedgerows. The council have now issued a 28 day enforcement notice to remove themselves from this NCI ( next to SSSI ) - hurray !!
I e-mailed the local Greenpeace rep prior to this, and get no reply at all. Is Greenpeace just concerned with overseas activities? It would appear so, What about looking after our home turf too. I have been a member for a year or so but am seriously thinking of withdrawing due to diminished UK based concern.

Lack of response
Sorry you've had no response - it could be for a number of reasons, not least that local activists are all volunteers and have busy lives outside of Greenpeace.
But unfortunately it's not an issue we'd be able to get involved with anyway. We are indeed an international organisation and all our campaigning in the UK contributes to the global uber-strategy. However, if campaigns about Trident, North Sea marine reserves, new nuclear power stations, new coal power stations, government policy on biofuels, government policy on climate change, not to mention supermarket stocks of bulbs, fish and garden furniture (and that's just off the top of my head) aren't UK-focused, then something's wrong in our communications.
It's not that local issues aren't important (quite the opposite), it's just that it's not within our remit and we only have a finite amount of resources. From the sound of it, you've already had a big success without our help and if you do get in touch with your local group of volunteers, you may find others interested in helping out in a non-GP capacity.

Finding out more...
Hello,
Is there anyway i can find out more about your VJ project at Glastonbury in a more direct way? We are a climate change peer-education project looking into building a VJ set to tour a few gigs this autumn and are looking for some advice on how to get the ball a rolling...
Many thanks, blue skies,
C-Change
