VIDEO: The Rainbow Warrior III comes to London

Posted by mollybrooks - 25 November 2011 at 1:27pm - Comments

On 12 and 13 November, we invited the supporters who helped fund the Rainbow Warrior III for a special tour of the new ship.

Thanks to all those who came and made it a very special day - and thanks to all those who donated but couldn't make it on the day.

A big thank you to all at Greenpeace for making and sharing this video - as one who donated but could not get to London this was really uplifting to see - Good luck !

Sometimes I wonder whether my donating to Greenpeace makes any difference to anything.   Seeing this beautiful ship, funded entirely by donations, makes it clear that it really does.   I am proud to have been a tiny part of creating this ship.   Long may she and her crew infuriate the polluters and despoilers!

Thank you Greenpeace for this wonderful update on the Rainbow Warrior; what an amazing vessel of hope: congratulations and well done!  And thank you Greenpeace for continuing to bring hope to us throughout the decades, despite the ever mounting volume of exploitation of our beautiful, astounding planet earth.  I am heartened to watch the video, and am always present in spirit.  :-)

Sorry not to have made it, it looks like I shall always live to regret not making the journey as the people in the video were obviously overwhelmed by it. Lots of commitments at present but if you ever do this again and give us the opportunity to look over her I shall DEFINITELY make the trip next time. Good luck and thanks for all you are doing.

Awesome. I was working that day in Canary Wharf and saw it arrive. Everything stopped. we were all so thrilled to witness its arrival and berthing. It does inspire hope.

Michele

Although hyped as a TOUR of Rainbow Warrior III this was little more than a walk around the deck. No one in a uniform on the ship knew much about it, what a waste of time. Definately not worth queueing twice for as you got a similar view from the quayside. Thanks for not responding to my email two weeks ago. You seem to have little respect for your supporters. Ive cancelled my monthly standing order.

I was not able to make it on the day as I was not well. My one word to describe the ship would be "brilliant".

Thanks for posting this video.  What a beauty!  Makes up for not being able to attend on 12/13.

WOW !!!!!

I'm so proud of you all

I was there and it was amazing - a word that has been used a lot on the video and on the day. It was humbling for me to actully be standing on her deck- i was very moved and felt so priveledged to have  had the opportunity. i imagined her in all parts of the worlds working on our behalf- and saving and fighting for all i hold dear -to protect our precious planet. Thanks for  letting us share in  her  big launch- i will be watching her journey with interest. the poster display, by the way ,was fantastic and real testimony to Greenpeace and what this stands for. i was prond to be part of the Organisation.

I felt it a priviledge to meet people with the courage of their convictions.A very rare thing  these days.Thank you for the chance to go on board your beutiful ship. Please keep up your wonderfull work.

I am so sad I was unable to be there.    But the video was lovely.   Thank you to Greenpeace - I proud to be part of the organisation.    Good luck and don't stop your work of protecting our planet.

thanks for the vid, the ship and the work.............more power to GREENPEACE

The weather was wonderful and my family and I were so proud to have played a small part in the

creation of this beautiful ship.  We understood that it would have been difficult to accomodate everyone with a guided tour as there were just so many supporters there.  I would like to know more  about where the ship is going to be in future voyages.

I was so proud when we were watching the video wall and I could say to my son "That campaign was successful" to most of the events we saw.   Good luck to all those who are fortunate enough to sail on the Rainbow Warrior 111, I look forward to hearing about their exploits.

It was lovely just to say I'd been there that day,  Thank you Greenpeace.

I couldn't be there either but the video's superb!  Lump-in-the-throat-stuff, and I too am proud to have given a bit towards this symbol of hope.  And the best of wishes to all who work on her and to all GP people who risk their lives attached to anchor chains and the like.

Thanks for the Video, what do I think? Awesome!!! I

When I realised (like Michele) that it was merely a 10 minute walk around the deck (rather than a TOUR) that you would have to queue for, I half regreted having booked the train journey to London and the hotel for the 2 of us.

We are so glad we did though. Just setting foot on that awe-inspiring ship made it all worth while. Looking round, peeping in the control room and being guided by a well-informed person was the icing on the cake.

Its difficult to see how the organisers could have done better given the overwhelming number of people who accepted the invite.

WELL DONE!

I've realised that the author appears below the dotted line so apologies to Michelle. My comment above should start "When I realised (like Paul) that it was ....

.

Wonderful.  It's not just that the ship is a great example in terms of its engineeering and green credentials.  It's not just the hope it inspires that it will be an effective messenger and platfor for action across the world.  It's the fact that it was built through the action of people who care about the planet.  That is a wonderful example and an expression of a spirit which seems to have grown over recent months.

Thank you for sharing with us a glimpse of this beautiful ship.  I only wish I could donate more to your brave causes.  May you continue to stand up against the exploiters of this world, and especially may you keep strong in the face of those whaling nations.  A luta continua!

Rainbow Warrior is an awesome sight - donated but couldn't make it to London. so the video has softened the blow!

Hope RW and her crew will be at the forefront of all things good for a long time to come.

I was sad not to be there but the video was a great substitute, thank you for sending it.  I was practically moved to tears as I watched it. Greenpeace is so, so inspiring. Keep up the good work, you are all wonderful.

Thank you for the invite to London to see the "Rainbow Warrior III". I couldn't make it due to work and the distance from the far west of Wales. (I did visit the "Moby Dick" some years ago in Fishguard and have been a loyal supporter for far more years than I care to remember!). May the spirits of this beautiful planet sail with you and protect you as you seek to protect her. Greenpeace you are the wind beneath the the wings of change, you are making a difference, keep going!!

Thank you for the video of the new ship, it was good to see as we couldn't make it to London.

Saw the Rainbow Warrior II in Hong Kong harbour earlier in the year and was impressed with that, but Rainbow Warrior III looks even better.

I'm so glad to see the concrete result of some of my donations to the amazing organisation that is Greenpeace. To me the Rainbow Warrior and ships like it should glide the oceans all over the planet to give us a message of hope and understanding that we will prevail - in the environment, in the safeguarding of all that is dear to us on this planet, from the quality of our waters to sustainable fishing, from the preservation of endangered species to the ultimate reward for human rights, she, as a symbol should represent the best of life of earth and the best of all living species. Thank you Greenpeace and good luck to the Rainbow Warrior on her perilous but heroic voyage around the world, and thank you to all who sail in her.

She looks beautiful in the video and was incredible to visit too, a very enjoyable experience! Thank you Greenpeace!

So sorry I couldn't be there and so wished I had been .... she looks like an amazing ship and I know it would have been wonderful to stand on her deck, just knowing the phenominal work she would be contibuting to in order to help keep our beautiful planet Earth cared for and looked after .... thank you Greenpeace for all your amazing work which I am so proud to be part of, and thank you for this wonderful video, even though I wasn't there it was lovely to feel like I was :o)

Fantastic! Good work Greenpeace.

I'm really sorry if my comment doesn't seem exactly to the point of this post. But it does relate to London. The 2012 Olympics, in particular. And it very much relates to the work that Greenpeace does.

I'm sure nobody needs to be reminded about the Union Carbide-Bhopal disaster. We also know how very well Dow Chemicals HAS NOT compensated the people who died and those who are still suffering the after-effects after more than 25 years.

I request you all to read this news article:

http://in.reuters.com/article/2011/11/25/idINIndia-60730620111125

Yes, Dow is sponsoring the 2012 Olympics.

I love the games, I know how hard the athletes work for a spot on the teams. I know how important it is for an organisation to spend on sponsoring such huge events to create a positive image. And I know that India may not end up boycotting the games.

But Dow doesn't deserve to be associated with a beautiful event like the Olympics.

You only need to go through it's Wiki page for a few minutes how long-lasting and devastating the effects have been and will be: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bhopal_disaster

I may be really wrong or I may seem really judgemental and the Olympics may really really need their sponsorship, (though I'm sure many corporates will jump to replace their space) but I wonder how Dow thinks sponsoring the Olympics is a better PR Strategy than compensating the victims.

I am sorry for this rant, but I thought Greenpeace is where I'll find people who do care.

Although I was not able to attend the day I am more than
proud to be associated with this magnificent ship and been able to play a small part in giving it life. May the Rainbow Warrior and its crew continue to expose
and harass the despoilers of our world until they see sense.

You brought a tear to my eye. The Rainbow warrior looks fantastic, well done everybody.  So sorry we weren't able to make the trip to London to see her, but very grateful for the great video. x

I was very sorry not to have been able to make the visit but really glad that you made the offer and provided the video. Like others I've made regular donations to Greenpeace for a long time and this is a real tangible result. I appreciate that most of the work you do isn't so obvious but equally important. An excellent initiative.

Many thanks for the video. Though unable to get to the London showing of the new

Rainbow Warrior, I was thrilled to see the outcome of the mite I was able to contribute

to an organisation I  have supported for decades past.

A beautiful day - and topped off by a visit to Occupy London. Full respect.

Let the spirit of Gandhi bring us all hope.

Like so many others, I found the video of the new Rainbow Warrior very moving because that beautiful ship is a world-wide symbol of a group that cares about what happens and is prepared to take action.

Thank you for inviting us, for making and sending the video and for making us feel a part of the wonderful work Greenpeace does for us all.

Oh how I wish I could have come on board on the day but I could not travel on my own.

Rainbow Warrior 3 is absolutely superb and I will always be part of Greenpeace because it is needed to keep this world what it is truly supposed to be !!!

A real inspiration, money well spent it shows what can be done by extrordinary "ordinary" people!

Thank you Greenpeace.  Lovely to see the beautiful Rainbow Warrior III and to know you are keeping up the good work.  The future is looking better all the time.

Thankyou, nice video, nice ship.

Here is the link,http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZngMzUgLRqE (scraped from the page source) for those of us without "flash"

Thank-you Greenpeace, for going to the trouble of making this inspiring video for all those, like me, who were unable to make it for the tour of the ship - it looks magnificent. Good luck in all your endeavours!

God bless this shiop and all who sail in her.

My dad and me went on the Breakfast Tour. Thank you very much Greenpeace. I am nine and a half, and I will remember the day forever.

Well done Greenpeace, I was moved watching the footage and sorry I couldn't have been there, the ship looks truly wonderful. Oh, and Paul Day - it's not all about you! Have a word with yourself. I am proud to be a supporter of this inspiring organisation.

Gorgeous ship and moving video.  Thank you, Greenpeace.

I'm so proud to have contributed a tiny bit of her.

Like so many others, I regret that I was not able to be there on the day.  Rainbow Warrior III looks to be a wonderful ship which is 'fit for purpose.  Long may she sail the seas bringing hope to our beautiful but troubled planet.  PEACE.

Thank you for this opportunity to catch up on the wonderfully achieved project of Rainbow III. May all who sail with her to the benefit of the environment have happy and successful trips. A fantastic example of what can be done when there is a will to do the best to protect our world. Be interesting to know what the Government think of this achievement. I am not optimistic that it will be used as an example to them of what they could achieve if they wanted with regard to many walks of life - if only the thoughts of materialism, greed, power and money were not the motivation.

Congratulations and wonderful that so many of the public sponsor this important Charity.

Sincerely,

Rosemary

Thanks for the video Greenpeace, nice to see it launched. Shame not to have made it, hopefully go and see it next time shes in the UK.

Thank you for including us in this wonderful experience via the video. Disappointed not to have been able to make the actual event. Very touching, in fact not an understatement to agree that it is awe-inspiring. Looking forward now to updates of her progress/involvement in current and forthcoming campaigns. Many, many thanks ...
