The Airplot hosted a very special picnic on Sunday as part of the Big Lunch, which saw a staggering 2 million people sit down for Sunday dinner with their local communities to indulge in locally grown food.
Dozens of local residents came down to the plot to share food, and once again show that this is a community that won't be moved. The Airplot allotment veggies, which Richard Briers helped to plant in May and have been lovingly tended by Tracy and local children, are now a sight to behold, and be eaten! Once our very enthusiastic grass on the plot got a trim (thanks Linda!), the Airplot was the perfect place to eat lunch and celebrate all things local.
Christine from NoTRAG, who organized the day, told us "When we heard about The Big Lunch initiative to celebrate British communities, Airplot seemed the perfect spot for a NoTRAG picnic. Our communities are worth fighting for and Airplot has brought together thousands of people who agree that Heathrow expansion must not go ahead."
"On the day, even blustery winds and a sprinkling of summer drizzle couldn't dampen our spirits as we ate our sandwiches by the neat rows of beans, carrots and strawberries."
After Glastonbury, we now have over 50,000 people who've signed up to become beneficial owners of the Airplot (and we haven't yet counted how many lovely people signed up at Latitude at the weekend). If you haven't signed up yet, or haven't asked your MP to become an owner yet, you can do it here.
