So we've heard that, at long last and after much faffing around, the government will finally announce its decision on that third runway tomorrow. I have to add the 'probably' caveat as it's been delayed many times before but I doubt anyone will be slack-jawed if they give Heathrow expansion a big thumbs-up.
Despite the enormity of this decision, and the ramifications for people around the world, Gordon Brown has refused to promise a vote in the Commons on the issue. John Randall MP referred back to the day Plane Stupid sat on the roof of the house when he waggishly reminded Brown what he said at the time.
"You will recall on February 27 last year you said: 'The message should go out today very clearly that decisions in this country should be made in the chamber of this House and not on the roof of this House.'
"Will you now make a pledge that any further expansion at Heathrow will have a vote in this chamber?"
Nice one. If Brown does indeed deny our elected representatives a say in the matter (and both main opposition parties have said 'no' to a third runway), they can join our plot as beneficial owners of our piece of land on the proposed site and stand beside us during the planning inquiry.
Announcement on Heathrow expected tomorrow
WHy don't you register sub divisioned plots of a non frivolous size and continually transfer ownership amongst other owners. Compulsory purchase orders must be served on owners and the land registration process would not be able to keep up with multiple transfers. It could be that an owner agrees to sell to another only a minute before the compulsory purchase order arrives in the post. There is clearly a cost to registration but it certainly would put a spanner in the works.
The story is on the front page of the Times online saying that the plan has been approved.
I agree that Heathrow is not the best place for a new runway.
I do however feel it's a little hypocritical of Emma Thompson to be lecturing the poor proles on the need to reduce carbon emissions when she herself flies over 6000 miles (probably from Heathrow) to present a meaningless bauble in Los Angeles the day after commenting herself to the anti expansion of Heathro
When will these actors from the nu skool break from the old tired clichés of saying one thing and doing another.
I have the same thoughts at jusmasel, is it possible to subdivide the land into lots of tiny plots, say 1 metre square (or as small as is legally possible) then sell those plots to individuals, so there would be thousands of legal owners to contact to issue compulsory purchase orders to. To stop the frivolous loophole thing, a plant could be planted on each individual plot so the land is being used. I don't know if legal costs would make this idea impossible, but it just seems in theory like a really good idea to me! I'd buy one, for a start!
i have heard on various news reports that the decision has been made and it is going ahead. Aside from the massive climate impact this will have, what the people that stay in the to be bulldozed village. Have the powers that be thought at all about the huge disruption that is going to be caused to their lives. this is a mistake that should be challenged and disputed at every oppurtunity.
I am disgusted that in a so called democratic society our government can totally ignore the fact that more people DIDN'T want the runway than did.
700 homes will be bought up under compulsory purchase orders... that's an invasion isn't it? 700 people do NOT want to move house yet 'The Management' says they need to and bully their way through to overpower the citizens and invade their land.
This isn't the end... I 'own' a bit of the Greenpeace land... What's the next step Greenpeace? What do we do next to overthrow this barbaric governments decision?
Tell you what.... CHEQUERS is 1,500 acres..... USE THAT GORDON!!!!
