We can shout from the rooftops that nuclear power won't stop climate change and decentralised energy is the way forward; we can produce investigations into what it is, how it can apply to the UK and how much it will all cost; we can write case studies about how it's already being used; we can lobby government to sort out the regulatory framework and the energy markets so that decentralised energy is on a level footing with other forms of energy production; we can ask you to write to your MP to help spread the word.
We're doing all of this but, when it comes down to it, it's architects, designers, civil engineers and others working on the ground that can make this clean and efficient vision for our future a reality in the present. It's pioneering architects, engineers and designers who've developed the energy solutions we champion; there are already loads of inspiring examples of new efficient products, cutting edge buildings and smarter energy system designs that have all been the result of architects and designers at the forefront of tackling climate change.
Sadly though, these are often isolated projects, or passionate individuals working in spite of, rather than because of, more general trends or government policy. Together, we have to change that and make these kinds of designs, buildings, technologies and systems become mainstream.
So we're going along to the UK's biggest contemporary design event at Earl's Court next month: 100% Design. We'll be meeting architects and designers, civil engineers and building developers and even the people who buy and specify all the products for major high street stores and chains. We will share ideas and talk about energy solutions, we'll be showcasing our new film, and we'll have a fab installation at 100% Light, showcasing how efficient lighting is being used in dazzling new ways.
