US harpoons climate language in leaked document
Posted by bex on 29 May 2007.
If we needed more proof that the Bush administration is still ignoring the global scientific consensus on climate change, we now have it - in the form of a leaked document from the G8. Track changes in the Word document - a draft communique on climate change and energy security - reveals the edits made by the Bush administration.
The opening paragraph says it all really:
"The U.S. still has serious, fundamental concerns about this draft statement. ... The treatment of climate change runs counter to our overall position and crosses multiple "red lines" in terms of what we simply cannot agree to. This document is called FINAL, but we have never agreed to any of the climate language present in the document... there is only so far we can go given our fundamental opposition to the German position."
Andrew, from our international office, has put a copy of the document on our Making Waves blog. Well worth a read.
