The land bought by Greenpeace on the site of the planned third runway

One day, all this will be yours... No wait, it already is!

I meant to set up one of these yesterday but never quite got round to it, so I'm really pleased to see someone else (thanks, David Morgan!) has set up a Heathrow petition on the Number 10 website. If you're itching for another way to vent your anger at the government's appalling decision, sign it now.

Meanwhile, down on the land itself, the digging has finished and the words 'Our climate, our land' are now emblazoned across the plot in a handsome stone finish. There they'll stay until at least the next stage of the campaign which is being discussed now. We've already had loads of ideas from fellow Airplotters about what to do with the land - from turning it into a wildlife sanctuary to setting up a foreign embassy - and hopefully it won't be too long before we can let you know what you can do next.

And there are now over 22,500 of you who have joined the plot which is simply amazing. If you haven't joined yet, what are you waiting for?

I have signed up as a plot owner, but it's more an act of faith than anything else. I can't find anywhere on this site that explains the legal implications of having thousands of plot owners rather than just one, or what we're potentially letting ourselves in for when BAA fight back. Can just clicking on a link make one the legal owner of land? Doesn't there have to be a physical document signed? Why are we any different from the poor people of Sipson, who will presumably be compulsorily purchased? Do I now 'own' a tiny sliver of land, which shrinks every time someone else signs up, or am I part-owner of the whole plot?

We should email everyone who has joined the airplot and ask them to sign the petition on number 10s website; becvause if everyone signed it we would have more then 20,000 signatures.

billofrights - Thanks for acting on faith but your actions are more substantial than that. You don't own a defined section of the land, but the land is being held in trust by the four owners named on the deed on behalf of the 32,000 (and counting) beneficial owners who've signed up. A colleague has likened it to a sports club which buys a new football pitch on behalf of its members - you haven't been involved in purchasing the land but you as a member you become a beneficial owner.

We will have more details about being a beneficial owner up on the site soon. They would have been up before now but we've been overwhelmed by the response and also the pace of events around the third runway which have sucked up a lot of time.

First of all thanks a lot for the great and informative article. It is really sad that I have found this your post only now. When I read the full text I really wanted to sign for this petition. I hope that your website will offer and other such type petitions in the future. Well I will definitely bookmark your website and wait for other such news. Thanks a lot one more time for the informative article and keep up publishing those great and useful posts in the nearest future too.
