Moving planet

Greenpeace supporters will join tens of thousands of other people across the world this Saturday for the Moving Planet event, calling on our leaders to move beyond fossil fuels.

Whilst the Greenpeace ship Arctic Sunrise is exposing threats to the Arctic caused by fossil fuels, people around the world will join together to call on our leaders to move beyond fossil fuels.

Moving Planet will bring together people in 175 different countries (and counting) and many organisations to get moving for a world without fossil fuels. People will be hosting events to draw attention to our addiction to fossil fuels and demonstrate sustainable solutions as well as calling on political leaders across the globe to move beyond fossil fuels.

No one knows how much climate change we can withstand, but we know that climate change is already harming people and ecosystems around the globe. Unless we act soon it will be too late to tackle the problem. Political action has been slow but with the UN's next round of climate talks in South Africa coming up now is the time to demand action.

Amongst the events planned are a cycle ride through Edinburgh, bike rides linking problems with solutions, a mass bicycle aerial photo, parties, carnivals, rallies and film screenings. Check out the local groups network to find out what Greenpeace supporters are up to in your area or check out the Moving Planet website for ideas on holding your own event.

In case anyone has any doubt as to the fatuousness of 350.org's Moving Planet day, you only have to go to the page http://www[dot]moving-planet[dot]org/plan, and the section urging people to invite "your leaders". Did you hear that? YOUR LEADERS.

You have no power, they are YOUR LEADERS. You can engage YOUR LEADER. You can ask YOUR LEADER to sign a pledge. You can ask YOUR LEADER to make a speech. Because you have no power in the eyes of 350.org - fact. Their words reveal their agenda. You do not create change, you have to ask nicely.

6. Invite your leaders

If you want to make sure your leaders hear your demands, make sure you invite them out to your event! It's important to email an invitation, and call a few days later to follow up - do it early so their schedules haven't filled up. A few ideas for engaging your leader as a part of your event are a) asking them to speak in front of the crowd about their plans on climate change (so they have to say what they are or aren't doing publicly), or b) ask them to sign a pledge to take on your demands. This can work especially well for candidates who are seeking election who may promise things now that you can hold them accountable to later.

If that's not bullshit, I don't know what is!

I think greenpeace is not helping anyone it is just wasting money

well that event was a complete fail I think I speak for all when I say greenpeace are just a bunch of overreacting hippies that deserve to dig a deep hole and then have the hole filled in with them still in it!

Well I personaly thinck they should embrass the different things that can produce power, and stop say "ooowww lets all get on and happy and all lovey-dovey" its a waste time of time, this the real word, WAKE UP YOU IDEOTS

I agree with lewis Millward, Well Done :)

Futher more have you though how much pollution you are putting into the envirment with all of our ships and smoke from your smoking items (wink wink)

well I have to say thank you although you spelling was bad, also I would like to add that everyonne who supports greanpeace also support the violence that they cause.

Mr Millward I would have to say that your previous comments were completely correct and I am the head techer of brixham college, making me an educated man, your comments are the most emotional comments I have seen in years.
