It'll look like this, but muddier, and with more men wearing dresses
It's difficult to know how to get people at Glastonbury to join in with the good work of saving the planet, but this year we reckon we've come up with a way to make it all fairly straightforward for those who are a bit 'festivaled out' to join in.
You know how it is at Glastonbury, or perhaps you don't. I guess if you're reading this you're probably not there, so you might welcome a full-on rant about the one time I went, got embedded in mud, slept in a ditch, and exposed myself to a wide range of health and safety nightmares in the name of trying to promote a mobile phone-based carbon calculator, in which precisely nobody was interested.
Even better, our stall was (for some reasons which had made sense weeks earlier on the sunny day we'd planned it) shaped like a tea van, and so what generally happened was we'd get bedraggled, muddy festival casualties staggering up and plaintively asking for cups of tea. "Er, sorry mate, we don't have any. But we can calculate your carbon footprint for you!" wasn't what they wanted to hear.
In the grand spirit of great stars from the past, we're reprising one of our greatest hits - the Big No. Yes, we're going to corral possibly thousands of willing (or oblivious) festival-goers, dressed as pilots, air stewardesses, and who knows what else, to form a giant 'NO' in our Airplot-themed Glastonbury field, a pop-culture-style tribute to our earlier big 'NO' created in Sipson, which assembled thousands of people to spell out an unmistakable message to BAA and the government about the third runway at Heathrow.
Seems like a long time ago, and although we've come a long way since then, the pressure on those who want to build the runway hasn't let up, and we're going to send a message from the heart of pop culture to the Houses of Parliament.
If you do happen to be reading this and down at Worthy Farm, head on over to the Greenpeace field tomorrow for 12 noon to join in the big no fun.
In other GP Glastonbury news, some mates of ours are blogging about setting up the Greenpeace field. Keep an eye on their web site for updates over the weekend.
