David Rose has penned an article in the Mail on Sunday about the Arctic sea ice, and it’s buzzing around the denial-o-sphere like a bumble bee on crystal meth. The thrust of his piece is that the ice is more abundant this summer than the record low of last year (as the vast majority of scientists predicted) and that climate change can therefore be declared bogus.

Well here we are again, several thousand people gathering in a conference centre to talk about climate change and, supposedly, work towards a deal to actually do something about it. There are good guys and bad guys: campaigners say a deal is possible while journalists sound pessimistic. We’ve been here before, right? Yes, but Durban really is important and maybe, just maybe, this time it’s a little bit different.

There's something unhealthy in the air up here in Manchester. As the Labour party conference rumbled on down the road, I sat in a fringe meeting today at the Climate Clinic where the chap from the British Airports Authority allowed the 'sincerity' to drip from his lips like dark honey.

Oh Mandy! You came on a plane...

We stuck a snapper outside Manchester airport on Sunday, wondering if we'd catch any of our oh-so-green politicians letting the plane take the strain. When a silver Merc pulled up outside Arrivals and Jeeves stepped out, our guy asked if he was waiting for a big cheese. 'Er, can't say mate.' So who came waltzing out of the terminal?

Oh Mandy, who knew that you flew here from London?

And Pete, what kind of gent are you, letting your young aide lug all the gear? Having a bag-carrier, it's all a bit Old Labour isn't it? All a bit beer and sandwiches. I thought The Project was all about personal responsibility and a culture of respect. Hmmm...
