Swiss activist Marco Weber, who is currently being held in a Russian prison along with 29 others following the storming of the Arctic Sunrise by Russian agents on 19 September, has written a letter of thanks to all the people supporting the Arctic 30. In it he explains why he believes that people power is necessary to protect the Arctic and how the support of the public is keeping him going.

On 15 September we will haul a giant people-powered polar bear through central London. Aurora is part protest, part performance - all Arctic. She is a giant super-puppet - the size of a double decker bus - and her fur carries the names of each and every member of the movement to save the Arctic.

See her transformation over the past couple of months from a design into a giant marionette.

Denis Sinyakov, who covered Greenpeace’s expedition to the Rosneft’s oil fields, is a Moscow-based Russian photographer, who worked as a photo editor and a staff photographer at Agence France-Presse and Reuters.

Majority of EU countries support partial ban of bee-killing pesticides

A clear majority of EU countries have supported the European Commission proposal to temporarily ban three pesticides that are scientifically shown to be harmful to bees: imidacloprid and clothianidin, produced by chemical company Bayer, and thiamethoxam, produced by Syngenta.
