A polar bear, an Arctic explorer complete with ice axe and climbing rope, and videos and presentations brim full of information about the Arctic were some of the ingredients of Berkshire Greenpeace's recent Arctic evening.
Our guests attending the evening were greeted by the polar bear and a lost explorer, far from the Northern ice floes in urban Reading, and were treated to the fabulous new 'Greenspeakers' presentation about Greenpeace's campaign to defend the Artic and a screening of the BBC 'Frozen Planet' documentary. The documentary focuses on the lives of people who live in the Arctic Circle and the extraordinary ingenuity and determination they show in making their livelihoods - a fitting subject for an event which was part of the Reading International Festival.
Around 30 people attended the evening - a refreshing mixture of new faces and old. Thanks to Hannah and Annalisa for organising the evening and to the Global Cafe staff for hosting us.
