Greenpeace Protest Oxford University Shell Partnership

Oxford University has signed a partnership with Shell, allowing Shell to fund the Earth Science department & reseach into fossil fuel extraction. Ed Davey, Secretary of State for Energy & Climate Change, came for a champaign fueled opening ceremony. But Oxfords own climate scientists know thst we need to leave the majority of fossil fuels in the ground to avoid huge climate change.  Berkshire Greenpeace joined Oxford Greenpeace, Oxford University Students & Alumni, People & Planet & other environmental & humanrights groups in a protest outside the department & a cold biting wind pulled at our banners. There was a large police presence, including 2 mounted officers & 2 photographers piering out from behind a bush , half hidden, half high vis jackets. The Protest gives other the confidence to speak out & remind Oxford Uni of the need for morality in there actions. as Jeremy Leggett said  “Shell has abandoned all pretense at playing a role in saving civilisation from the ruin of six degree global warming. Universities are increasingly part of the problem too. Most have become complicit seekers of funding, for short-term perceived interests, when a liveable future is at stake for the very students they educate. “  For more info http://peopleandplanet.org/fossil-free/oxford
