Saving the Arctic - in Shinfield!

Berkshire Greenpeace supporters joined Greenpeace's international campaign against Shell's plans to drill for oil in the Arctic this weekend with a leafleting blitz at our local Shell petrol station in Shinfield Road, Reading.

Just seconds after we introduced ourselves to the duty manager and handed in a letter of objection to Shell's plans, the manager decided to close the station down following a phone call to his superiors. The pumps opened and closed again several times over the next half hour before finally opening again for good, allowing us to hand out Greenpeace's 'Save the Arctic' leaflet to customers and passers-by with an invitation to text Shell's Chief Executive Peter Voser to object to the company's plans, which would place pristine Arctic reasons at risk from an oil spill.

We rapidly gave out over 100 leaflets and attracted a lot of interest and a surprising amount of support from drivers queuing at traffic lights by the junction.

We'll be visiting more local Shell garages over the next few weeks, and in the meantime if you would like to support the campaign, you can send a message to Peter Voser by texting SHELL to 60777.
