This weekend was mainly about Greenpeace volunteers up and down the country exposing the darkside of VW dealerships and what a great job they did.
But joining renegade stormtroopers is not the only thing volunteers got up to this weekend, a small group of them from various London and St Albans networks were down at the Thames Festival campaigning on reform of the Common Fisheries Policy (CFP). The policy is currently under review and needs to be radically changed if we are to have any fish left in EU waters. From our nautical themed stall around 500 letters were drawn and written to David Cameron, urging him to do the right thing and ensure that we get a proper policy.
Not only did we get the Met’s finest to join but we also got a commitment from Simon Hughes to bring up the issue at his next meeting with the PM.
Two different major campaign events pulled off by Greenpeace volunteers in one weekend, sounds pretty impressive to me, maybe we’re even more awesome than we’re meant to be!
