We will be talking to local people about the fact that right now both Labour and the Conservatives plan to waste at least £97bn on building new nuclear weapons.

We will be  asking them whether, given our huge national debt and with essential services being lined up for cuts, whoever wins the next election should go ahead with these new nuclear weapons plans or should cut them.

We will present the survey results to the local parliamentary candidates and ask them to pass the results on to their party leaders.

This is a crucial issue right now as spending on building new nuclear weapons is due to begin soon – and once started its hard to stop.

Greenpeace is calling on all political parties, at the very least, to include the question of whether spending £97bn on new nuclear weapons is a good use of strapped resources in the upcoming defence review.
