The courtyard at The Bristol Folk House was basking in wonderful sunshine throughout the day at the Green Volunteer Fair. It was a great opportunity to promote two key forthcoming events along with our current campaigns. We spoke to a steady stream of people attending the fair and it was encouraging to note that quite a few were interested in our planned 'plastic plucking' event on the banks of the River Avon on World Earth Day, as well as the film and social evening celebrating 40 years of Greenpeace. It also provided a chance to speak to other organisations and be more informed about their activities. .
Big thanks to Carol, Fi, Iain, Mark and Richard for their time on the stall. Special mention to Carol who valiantly tried on the Paula the Polar Bear costume (but it is clear she prefers a cooler climate!) and for organising our stall and printing. It was a perfect occasion to undertake our outreach role and encourage people to 'get active' with us in the near future.
Green Volunteers Bristol is co-ordinated by Bristol City Council, Bristol Natural History Consortium, Volunteer Bristol and Voscur and their aim was to recruit 1,000 volunteers in 2011 - the European year of volunteering. A new website has been set up to match those with time and energy on their hands with organisations that need volunteer help in running activities. Click here to find out more.
The video below gives more information about their aims.
