The Greenpeace theme at Glastonbury this year was “Oceans” and the Greenpeace field contained some amazing wavy and fishy structures such as:
- - an enormous Groundswell wooden wave
- - shiny giant fish made of CDs woven into a willow structure
- - Greenpeace showers contained in a life-size model of the Rainbow Warrior surging through the swell complete with floodlit masts visible far across the site at night.
The field also contained:
- - lofty towers which visitors could ascend to catch a breeze and look down on the mud.
- the perennially popular skateboard ramp
- - farmers market (for the first time!)
- - live music on the “Raising Voices” stage
- - straw bale recording Studio called the Cowshed where some famous names came along to lay down a track in aid of Rainbow Warrior, listen here to some of the tunes including Michael Eavis singing happy birthday to Greenpeace!

Campaigners roaming the field encouraged the public to sign a letter to David Cameron about improving the Common Fisheries Policy. Many members of the public were immediately interested in this having picked up a lot of the background from the “Hugh’s Fish Fight” TV programmes that were on Channel 4 in the spring.
The CFP campaigns have gained a lot of momentum and new proposals are currently being discusssed (13th July 2011) see this link for latest information:

In the “Your Greenpeace” tent we helped our visitors with t-shirt painting, banner making, badge making and face painting. Ministry of Fun performers staged short theatre pieces around the field in the shape of characters such as Neptune, mermaids, blue-fin tuna, fisherman, fishwives and policemen.
And a big thank you to the Greenpeace catering crew and Site Office for keeping us fed, watered and organized.
On East Bristol Greenpeace Flickr account there are some pictures of the merriment: http://www.flickr.com/photos/48798428@N02/sets/72157627202623686/
