Logistics interfered with our Plan A this sunny Saturday morning (tardy postman) so we thought up a Plan B.
There was a lot going on in downtown Bristol this weekend so we knew the centre would be busy. For instance, events included graffiti fest See No Evil in Nelson Street, Dance Day at the M-Shed, and Sacrilege on College Green. We hoped to find a suitable corner for a spot of Arctic campaigning.
As it transpired, the organizer of the Sacrilege event was very Greenpeace-friendly, having a relative that works in the campaigns department. He was happy to let our bear bounce its troubles away on the life-sized inflatable Stonehenge. We then found a cool tree on College Green under which our polar bear could recover and then of course he/she soon attracted a crowd of children.
We used the 2 Greenpeace iPads to collect 120 signatures for the Arctic Scroll to be delivered to the North Pole – that is one every 2 minutes per iPad. Good work! We also gave away 180 stickers to kids and handed out leaflets describing how a global Arctic Sanctuary could ban drilling and industrial fishing.
Thanks, Natasha, Stacy, Lauren, Carol, Loz and Sue.
Sacrilege is a wonderful installation, visit it if you get the chance as it moves around the country.
