Update on Recent Campaigns: Kit Kat – Give the Orang-utans a Break

Posted by caroldurrant - 13 June 2010 at 10:55pm - Comments

Our spring campaign targetted Nestle - the makers of Kit Kat.  Greenpeace HQ investigated the supply chain of Nestle chocolate ingredients and discovered that Nestle were using palm oil from areas in Indonesia where orang-utan rainforest habitat had recently been destroyed.

In recent months Bristol East have spent many hours on the street with cardboard orang-utans (!) encouraging the public to get their pictures taken and write a message to Nestle to express their dissatisfaction.

On 17th May 2010 Nestle agreed to the Greenpeace campaign demands!   Nestle developed a plan to identify and remove any companies in their supply chain with links to deforestation, including the infamous Sinar Mas group.  The Forest Trust will be closely monitoring Nestle’s progress.
