Update on Recent Campaigns: Stop Heathrow Expansion

Last summer and autumn the Bristol East Greenpeace group worked hard to sign up beneficial owners to the Airplot acre sited slap-bang in the middle of the potential 3rd runway.

On 12th May 2010 the new government confirmed that it will scrap Heathrow expansion and refuse additional runways at Gatwick and Stansted.   This is a victory in our ongoing fight for action against catastrophic climate change.

However, the government have not ruled out expansion at other airports around the country.  On 24th May 2010 North Somerset councillors passed multi-million pound plans to expand Bristol Airport.  The Secretary of State is now required to consider the impact of the expansion on climate change and to rule on plans to build a car park on green belt.
