What Bristol East Did in 2012 - video blog

It certainly has been a blockbuster year for East Bristol Greenpeace group.  Having so much to cover has not been easy in putting together a videoblog as there is such a wealth of good material to plunder.  So apologies for it being almost 5 minutes long but it does hopefully reflect on the depth and bredth of the work of the group.  I wanted to span as many events as possible and include as many people who have contributed over the past 12 months.  I hope I have done the group justice and apologies if events have been omitted.

Big thanks to those members of the group who spend time behind the scenes organising the programme of events and running meetings.  A huge 'well done' to those who make themselves available for activities whether it be for a whole day or just an hour.  Without you we would not have had the successes we have achieved this year.  We also appreciate the work and guidance from those working at GPHQ at Cannonbury Villas and it has been especially exciting to get some input at national level and at skillshares on up and coming campaigns.  We now have a reputation to uphold in terms of our particpation in campaigns and communicating our activities.  Last year our website contributed over 60 blogs and 12 videos - it was named for 6 consequtive months as one of the top three most visted local group websites in the UK.  At the height of the summer our Facebook page reached some 400 people in a week and we have made good use of Twitter to get the message out there.  I have also been overwhelmed by the Arctic costumes creations that have been made by members (Carol, The Usher Family and Ian) so that now we have an extended family of polar bears, a narwhal and a snowy owl!  These have been bizarrely complemented by Olly T from Bradford on Avon and his fab chicken outfit! Wonderful.

One area the video blog does not cover are the sucesses Greenpeace has had with online campaigns that we have been involved in.  We have contributed via our computers and mobiles to petition the likes of KFC, Zara, Levis, politicians, Volkswagen, Shell and Waitrose in a bid to get them to reconsider their policies.  Some have responded positively and changed their ways - others we still need to work on during 2013!

... and so to 2013.  Here we are easing gently into a new year.  I hope you are looking forward to the challenges ahead and are inspired to do as much as you can to make a difference.  Together we can be an awesome force!
