5 October, 2013 - 12:00 - 15:00

We are organising a local activity as part of the Greenpeace global day of solidarity this Saturday October 5th, to encourage our supporters and people from across civil society to show their support for the Arctic 30 – our 28 activists plus the freelance photographer and videographer who were there to document the action - all of whom are currently being detained in Russia for an initial two months, under investigation for piracy which carries a maximum 15 year penalty. We will have photographs of the Arctic 30 and we will be encouraging people to write messages of support on white paper doves which will then be sent to the activists in Murmansk. We will be meeting at 12:00 Noon outside the old Habitat shop at the top of the triangle on the corner of Queens Road and Queens Avenue (opposite the Victoria Rooms, just down from Victoria Methodist Church). Then depending on how many people come we will spread out to engage as many members of the public as we can. There is a map of the meeting place here http://goo.gl/maps/6ffKS Also if you’ve not already done so please do follow this link www.greenpeace.org/freeouractivists and send an email to help free out activists. Please do let as many of your friends know about the Arctic 30 via Facebook, email, twitter, webgroups etc. and ask them to send an email too. On Saturday you can contact me – Richard Lancaster on 07505 990593 or Richard Baxter on 07795435576. Any questions, queries or suggestions please email me on r.lancaster@blueyonder.co.uk.
