Last Friday's Guardian [7/12/12]reported that EDF have postponed their decision to build a new reactor at Hinkley shortly after announcing that they have permission to extend the present reactor's life by seven years.

In May 2012 they announced postponement  of a £1.2 billion civil engineering contract to the chagrin of Balfour Beatty & Laing Rourke, this had been preceded by the postponement of £100 million site preparation.

EDF Chief Vincent Rivaz was clearly rattled at the House of Commons Select Committee questioning 23rd October 2012  when he clearly thought the UK Government's floor price of electricity was insufficient.

AS GREENPEACE policy has always maintained new nuclear build is not possible

without unspecified Government subsidy.

So where to now? Is this an EDF tactic to get a panic driven UK Government to cough up? Certainly the French Governmenet can't. [ENDS} -
