Mattel drops rainforest destruction.

They say things come in threes (like London buses, the legs of Jake The Peg, Billy Goats gruff, Stooges, Wise Men, blind mice, Musketeers, education (Tony Blair's mantra), little pigs and condoms!)  Not only do we have potential successes with our Volkswagen and Tar Sands campaigns, but it is great to hear that Barbie's manufacturers, Mattel, have made a commitment to dump APP (Asian Pulp and Paper as a supplier.

Under its new commitment, Mattel has instructed its suppliers to avoid wood fibre from controversial sources, including companies “that are known to be involved in deforestation”. This includes Asia Pulp and Paper (APP) which insists on destroying Indonesian forests to obtain its raw materials.  this is such great new after a long international campaign of emails,  product stickering, viral videos and of course The Great Barbie Hunt in the UK.  If you have been involved in any of these activities - then a big THANK YOU is well and truly deserved.  It is yet another campaign that has chipped away at the resolve of another big international company - coming at them from all angles - involving so many people.  Ken must be soooo happy!!

Of course the campaign continues ... Hasbro and Disney have yet to commit themselves fully to the way they source their toy packaging.
