Members of Bristol Greenpeace joined over 100 other protesters on a march and gathering in Bridgwater on Saturday afternoon. The event was organised by Stop New Nuclear, an alliance of anti-nuclear groups, and the aim is to stop the proposed building of a third nuclear reactor at Hinkley Point in Somerset. The march was a preliminary event to the blockade of Hinkley Point to be staged on the Monday (3rd Oct). It was good to meet representatives from Greenpeace France and Germany as well as anti nuclear groups from London, North Wales, and the surrounding area.
On the Monday representatives from Bristol; West Dorset & Wiltshire GREENPEACE
joined some 200 other protesters to block the gates of Hinkley Point (see pic above). It is felt that this is the first of many protests that will be organised.
With the nuclear catastrophe still unfolding in Japan at the Fukushima plant, it seems crazy that the British government is continuing with its plans for building new nuclear power stations. With this in mind Greenpeace is seeking a judicial review to stop the governments plans for new nuclear until the Japanese crisis has been fully investigated.
See the Stop New Nuclear website for more pictures and updates.
