Signings at St Werburgh's Summer Fayre

In two weekends Bristol Greenpeace engaged and encouraged almost 700 members of the public to support our current causes - a fantastic result.  A big well done to all those who helped and took part at St Werburgh's Farm Summer Fair, Love Food (Bath), and The Bristol Festival of Nature.

Rather than hand out leaflets in the hope that people would go home and log on to support our causes, we encouraged people to commit themselves by signing the standard letters reporduced from the Greenpeace website.  A great opportunity to explain our campaigns to them and get an immediate commitment of support - and it worked wonders.  So many of the members of the public were willing to listen and act - there and then.

At St Werburgh's Farm Summer Fair and Bath's Love Food event we got 248 signatures supporting the Fish Fight campaign against John West, who still persist with unsustainable fishing methods to catch their tuna.  Another 189 members of the public supported this cause at The Bristol Festival of Nature.  At this event we also campaigned against Mattel's destruction of the Indonesian rainforest by using Mixed Tropical Hardwood in their packaging - sourced from Asia Pulp and Paper.  A further 141 people signed the letter demanding Cairns Energy to publish their Spill Response Plan to a possible environmental disaster from drilling for oil in the Arctic.

Overall, two very successful weekends and it is heartening to see so many people willing to support these causes.  Again well done to all, including Barbara and Wilf who had to get extra copies of letters as the response was so overwhelming.
