During last night it was announced on both Al Jazeera [FREEVIEW  83 & RT FREEVIEW 85] that Royal Dutch Shell [just Shell to you & me[ that it has cancelled plans to drill for oil in the Arctic’s Beaufort & Chukchi Seas.during 2013.

This has been confirmed with a circular letter from our GPUK CEO John Sauven and another circular from Rachael and the GPUK web team.

Among the many Groups campaigning against Shell, GREENPEACE can be proud with its nearly 3million supporters in the now  ended first phase of SAVE THE ARCTIC.

Especial praise and congratulations  locally to those of us who worked the stalls, the streets, the polar bear, and the Shell garages.

Of that campaigning material ONLY the Shell garages remain at present- but the encouragement is there for further action when needed.

Meanwhile we need to work on fund raising in preparation  for the next stages of the campaign eg the pod.

Conoco Phillips have undertaken exploratory drilling the  ARCTIC for oil in 2014. MORE LATER [ENDS]
