Bristol Greenpeace were out on the streets last weekend (12th-13th Nov) with the latest national campaign to encourage Volkswagen to make a real commitment to improve its green credentials. As the biggest car manufacturer in Europe it has a responsibility to the environment and the consumer to produce fuel efficient and cleaner cars. VW has the technology but shows little intention to include it as a standard feature to its wide range of vehicles. 87 members of the public signed cards that will be sent to Volkswagen. 5 things you didn't know about Volkswagen
- Volkswagen spends millions every year on groups lobbying against environmental laws.
- Only 6% of Volkswagen's 2010 sales were the most efficient models - yet their advertising promotes them to be the most eco-friendly car manufacturer in the world.
- Volkswagen is also campaigning against a new European target to reduce emissions by 30 per cent by 2020. Over 100 leading businesses including Google and Unilever support this target - but not VW!
- As the biggest car company in Europe, VW bhas the biggest climate change footprint of any car manufacturer in Europe.
- Volkswagen penalises (and profits from) consumers wanting smarter, cleaner vehicles by artificially inflating their price for the fitting of their Blue Motion technology. It comes as an added extra at a price of up to £1,000 but coould be fitted for a mere £250.
Over 461,000 cocerned people have registered their protest by joining the Rebellion to date. To find out more and join the rebellion go to www.vwdarkside.com
