A great success for Southwark Group with over 150 people taking up all the chairs at the Thomas Moore Centre, in Lordship Lane last Saturday. Our speaker Donnachadh McCarthy, owner of a carbon-neutral house in Southwark and an established environmental campaigner, said he had never seen so many people at an Environmental event in Southwark ever before...so a big thank you to everyone who 'got out of their comfort zone' and came along. The Age of Stupid is such a powerful film, if you haven't seen it yet, please make the effort to visit their website and find another whowing near you. Mahesh and Kate provided wonderful home-cooked indian vegan food - and we had to send out for more plates twice. Everyone enjoyed their free glass of wine and some came back for more..plus a big thanks to all the volunteers who made the evening a success...It was commented upon that we worked together very well as a team - and no-one was shouting directions, everyone just got on with it, on th door, behind the bar, serving food, giving talks or doing the washing and clearing up - a fantastic effort and a great reward in that we were able to get our message across to so many people. Of course, on the night, no one took any photographs.........modest lot! A special mention for Alan, who has masterfully directed the entie operation and another thanks to Cinema Paradiso Film Society, without whom nothing could have been shown. We got Airplot sign-ups, a list of people who want to stay in touch and even some new members, so Southwark goes from strength to strength.
