Climate Camp feedback

Posted by Roisin - 17 September 2009 at 9:36pm - Comments
It was John’s first visit to Climate Camp, he said ‘I was not sure what to expect. Interestingly, for better or worse I found some views a bit too radical , I do think we should acknowledge what other people think even if we don’t agree with it. I got the opportunity to go to lots of workshops and did a lot of networking and it was an opportunity to look into some subjects which I hadn’t visited before. I think we need to improve what is there, we have got to get a system which works in reality.’ Ann Garret said’ I was very impressed with the workshop I attended which dealt with dealing with the police and police ‘kettle’ tactics. After the G20 in the City, I think many people were concerned about going into actions. I thought choosing a series of small actions on the last day was very effective. They got to RBS, BP, Shell, the PR Company for E ON and Trafalgar Square. The police reaction to the Camp was good too, as there was very little Police presence on Blackheath, which meant the ideas were the focus, not trouble with Policing.’ James had a great time networking with friends, attending workshops, and going on the last day actions. Roisin went on the Wednesday Swoop from Southwark tube, helped set up the London area Marquees and camped out Saturday night. Roisin said: ‘I was enthused and impressed with the quality of the many workshops, the breadth of ideas and solutions, the numbers of young people ready to get involved and the general activity of the Camp, which all ran smoothly, and left not a trace afterwards. It should be an annual event!’
