Hi there,

I’m sending this round with the minutes (pasted below) as things have changed for this day….target….planning….activities!!!

As our target is now Waitrose, GPHQ wants us to spread ourselves as much as possible, covering more than one store throughout the day.

We were planning to meet up with three other groups in SE London, Greenwich, Southwark and Croydon for an ‘en masse’ event; however our target has changed from sHell to Waitrose, who are now being supplied by sHell for petrol at some of their supermarkets.

None of those in our immediate area has the garage attached, but we can still make our protest heard outside the supermarkets at Burnt Ash Lane and in Bromley South.

As you can imagine, we do need more than two or three people to be effective – which is why I am asking for an hour of your time…..

Best place to start is in Burnt Ash Lane, meet at 11 am to start at 11.30, where the supermarket is at the end of the shopping parade, although drivers go in and out through the car park at the back of the store.

Ideally we would like to have a presence at the front, in the street, visible by passing traffic as well as customers, and a small presence at the back, where we can engage with motorists who are parking there. That works out to about 6 people…..if you can manage that PLEASE REPLY WITH BURNT ASH IN THE SUBJECT LINE.

By about 12.30 – 1 pm we will be moving off to Bromley, where hopefully another group of us will meet up at 1.30 pm to do the same outside the Bromley South Waitrose…….. if you can manage that PLEASE REPLY WITH BROMLEY SOUTH IN THE SUBJECT LINE.

We will then go into London, to meet up with all the other local groups who are doing the same in their areas, have a picture taken and go for a debrief in a local hostelry and have a Seasons Greetings social time with other Greenpeace people.

We DO still have a Polar Bear outfit…..we may be able to use ipads for signing up people to the SavetheArctic campaign..and we will be supplied with leaflets & flyers all about the campaign.

Each group needs to have a Media person - someone with an iphone-style phone for tweets, pics etc, which opens up the opportunity for new people to have a role.....and possibly join a differing group from their own so they can help others who don't have the technology.

This does mean you – all London groups are taking part, so if you find the transport links to another event are easier for you, please Google the area (Southwark) followed by Greenpeace, which will take you to that area’s local page.

We do have a budget for travel and pizzas in the evening, so you know that funds are there for that, as well as teas and coffees during the day.

I am really hoping that we can pull this off and show the rest of London that there are more than three people in the Bromley group!!!

The tide is turning – more awareness of Climate Change through the massive weather upsets we have seen, Superstorm Sandy in America, the 45 flood warnings in England this week….it’s time to get the public on our side, especially after this week’s Climate talks in Doha may not get the political support they need.

Please let me know you can be there to help……..if just eight of you come forward now we can make a success of this day……..

 Hope to see you then…..

xxR

Save the Arctic:

Saturday 15th December : Our savethearctic.org  site has now attracted over 2 million signatures, on it’s way to 3 million, please sign if you haven’t already done so. In Bromley, we met in Petts Wood Saturday 17th November: Report 35 signatures taken for Save the Arctic, lots of interest from people – many took photos, we have one which I will attach.

Volunteers for Polar Bear duty Saturday 15th December Plans have changed!

Sad Santas won’t be joining us, though Polar Bears and ipods are still in the mix!! If you have an iphone that would be great for media work too.

The bits that stay the same are that Bromley will be working with Croydon and Greenwich for a ‘local’ event (still tba) then into London for a massif group pic and then on to a de-brief and Christmas mash-up!

Please book the date in your diary – it was great to have three Bromley people at our last joint effort…let’s see if we can make it more this time?

It will probably start with a meeting at 11.30 at our local chosen site, with the pic planned for 3.30 in Central London…details still being worked out.

Common F**ing Policy: Dates for our part of the action have been pushed back as the decisions meeting has been pushed back by Brussels.

Film Night: Lots of interest in organising this, Chat about locations, RR to investigate Bromley United Reformed Church in Widmore road (next to Boots) other sites are the HG Wells Hall, All need research. Serrena offered to find out if a speaker from the Cwentre for  Wildlife in East Dulwich could do a short talk on gardening for the environment at our event. Date etc still to be decided.

Fundraising: Fundraising in Bromley: Pub crawl: this is a definite possibility, tho we need a volunteer to research landlords names and pub addresses for introductory letter.

Political Lobbying: Still an option if you like to work from home and contact your MP – most of ours local MPs are Conservative, as is Bromley Council.

Street CampaigningTraining – book Now – Reply & let me know if you want a place:

Saturday 12th January Islington.  This is a training specifically for new people or those who feel not-quite-confident in presenting Greenpeace campaigns to the public. Free, it includes a vege lunch and a visit to Canonbury Villas….lots of fun and meeting other people…who could become friends…

AOB :

Julie Etter joined hundreds of others at a national Hinckley Point protest, against EdF (Electricity de Fance) plans to build a new nuclear plant. Travelling on a coach from the Embankment, after talks and songs in Bridgewater, they group went to the proposed site for a ‘lie-in’. Amongst speakers were those from Fukushima who had just an hour to collect their belongings after being moved out of the exclusion zone.
