Found: Barbie ready for a Ball in Widmore Green

This is the one Barbie declared 'found' in WIdmore Green, as part of our campaign to alert Toy Manufacturers that thier packaging is destroying Rainforests...Mattel has said publicly they will drop APP (Indonesian Pulp and paper industry) and make a new policy to protect forests. Lego has announced a plan to end business with companies linked to deforestation, reduce its packaging, maximize recycled paper content, and source only certified sustainable wood for any virgin tree fiber it uses. People power works..

At the Latitude Festival, Greenpeace scored a hit with a wonderful array of nets for climbing for the 6 - 17 age group - the 'in-betweeners', So successful, we had a line of wanna-be climbers all day long on Sunday - and adults were jealous they couldn't have a go too. Worked with a great team, in a busy and excitting atmosphere and managed to see a couple of bands (the National, the Foals, the Eels and more) as well as visit the Literary and Comedy areas - The Sunrise area was great too!

Our VW campaign continues with phone calls to head offices and plans for test drives on-going. As far as the Non Violent Direct Action went against Cairn's headquarters in Scotland, several activists were arrested and Cairn Energy has obtained an extraordinary, wide-ranging legal interdict (injunction) against Greenpeace, which makes it difficult for me to post anything further here. See http://www.greenpeace.org.uk/blog/climate/breaking-cairn-injunction-twitter-gagging-20110719  Greenpeace has been replacing images from the event with the following ‘censored’ pictures: http://www.greenpeace.org.uk/image/image-removed,  http://www.greenpeace.org.uk/image/censored

Nike v Addidas : New campaign to help clean up China's rivers..Did you know that 30 billion tonnes of wastewater are dumped into the Yangtze river every year and that Shanghai’s 20 million residents are dependent on the Yangtze for clean drinking water? Nike is the first company to publicly take up the Detox Challenge, claiming it aspires to the same goal of a toxic-free future. The question now is, who will be first amongst Nike, Adidas and other would-be champions to turn these words into action. Click here to visit our site and sign the petition

Some success already, as: ‘Puma, the third largest sportswear company in the world, has leaped ahead of rivals Nike and Adidas this morning (Tuesday 26th July) by publicly committing[1] to the elimination of all releases of hazardous chemicals from its entire product life cycle, and across its global supply chain, by the year 2020. The move comes less than two weeks into our Detox campaign, and shows the power of thousands of people challenging the industry online and in cities around the world.

Common Fisheries Policy - we have a local action planned for this, so keep your eyes on this site to find out when and where.....How and where we fish in European and other waters has a direct bearing on fish stocks. If you saw any of 'Hugh's Fish Fight' tv series - or any from the top chefs on Channel 4 then you will appreciate we cannot keep taking fish out of the sea and throwing them back dead (called by-catch or discards), nor can we ignore scientific advice about how many fish we can take yet keep fish stocks sustainable - we have letters to David Cameron, Prime MInister, for folks on the street to sign and add their own message. This is a long campaign and we are at the beginning - join in so you can still enjoy fish and chips!!!
