Greenpeace Bromley Active Network

Meeting   Tuesday April 20th    O’Neill’s, 9 High Street Beckenham     Minutes

Present: Ann Garrett, Ferdinand, RR

Apologies: Julietta, John Littlewood (at Croydon Steering Committee) Julie Etter.

Reports: Special launch of the Nestlé took place at their Croydon headquarters, with help from the Greenpeace Orang Utans !!

Airplot: Still planning tree planting:

Wednesday 19th to Sunday 23rd May, each day 10.30am to 7pm

Wednesday 2nd June to Sunday 7th June each day 10.30am to 7pm

Wednesday 19th May evening 5.30pm to 9pm

Wednesday 2nd June 5.30pm to 9pm

Thursday 3rd June                  5.30pm to 9pm

Nestle: Our video about ‘Taking a Break’ was banished from the Greenpeace website, banned by Nestlé..but somehow it sneaked to Vimeo Ooops! Here: http://vimeo.com/10867996. This caused a storm on facebook, the media got involved, and it was held up as a PR disaster – as well as going viral.

If you follow the link, checkout the other Greenpeace videos from all around the world......

We have all campaign literature, so will be running this on a High Street stall in Bromley, on May 8th, from 12 noon to 4pm; meet Caffe Nero at 11.30am

Trident: As Alistair McGowan says, ‘There must be better things to do with £97Billion than to blow up the world’.....We are asking people to sign a yes or no card, which we will be handing to Parliamentary Candidates. Stall details as above. This is a great campaign, brought to the spotlight by the current General Election build-up, so people are interested in what we have to say.

Network: We still need to build up the network, so that will be a focus for next month. It might be possible for us to ask for volunteers from the Southwark network, and I will email them to ask if we can set up a joint date to boost our presence in Beckenham and /or Bromley.

Dates for your Diary – please get in touch if you need further details, can come along to help for a while, or are interested in getting involved.

Dates in bold are important for you to keep in touch.

Saturday 8th May: Bromley High Street stall from 12 noon to 4pm; meet Caffe Nero at 11.30am

Saturday 15th&16th May: Canterbury climate fair – maybe checkout their local page for a day out in the country air?

Sunday 16th& Monday 17th May: CaCC Climate Vigil at Whitehall .This is not a Greenpeace activity, but I, and many others support the Campaign Against Climate Change, who are organising a Climate Emergency Candlelit Procession from 11pm at St Martin-in-the-Fields, Trafalgar Square, to Old Palace Yard to remind the new Government that Climate has to be their top priority. We can go as a group and I will be contacting other local groups so we could join up together. I will probably be bringing a sleeping bag and a flask.    Email me

Saturday 12th June: London SkillshareDefinitely a date for your diary. This is the chance we get to meet up with other London volunteers, swap skills, get a campaign update and generally socialise, with a free lunch !  AOB

RR had a successful Trident stall in Hayes, Bromley, on Saturday with 35 cards with a No and one with a Yes – but I think she thought the point was I WANTED her to say yes LOL

AG - Nuclear trains action at Haringay Green Lanes station on April 17th as part of NTAG [ Nuclear Trains Action Group ]. AG expressed concern that Dungeness residents are protesting that the Nuclear site is NOT in the updated list, and claim job losses. This is felt strongly in the area, but the site was rejected because of fears that sea level rises may put it at risk (ie Global Warming has made it unsuitable) AG has a April 19th copy of ‘Kent on Sunday’ for full details- keep yours if you have it.

Next meeting May 18th at O’Neill’s, 9 High Street Beckenham, at 7.30pm. Look for the Green folder on the table.
