Well, my first post for Greenpeace, this is exciting! I have decided to post this because I recently went to a Skillsharing day in Norwich, organized by Greenpeace, and loved it. It was a wonderful day, and made me really want to do more to help, to be more involved. So, I present to you, the Cambridge Greenpeace Network!
Cambridge used to have a network, but hasn’t for many years, so one of the key points of the day was to try and set one up. That, and apparently eat a LOT of very nice food! There may have been a slight catering miscalculation, I don’t know, but nobody seemed to mind!
There were quite a few of us there from Cambridge, and in one of the afternoon workshop sessions one of the organizers, a lovely man called John, talked us through how to set up a group, and what being a part of Greenpeace meant. What we’re trying to do is save the world, and that always comes with a few risks. We’re non-violent, but we’re fighting for the planet, and doing what we can to get the Greenpeace message across.
Greenpeace is currently trying to alert everyone to the plight of the Arctic, which is under attack from evil oil companies! Join the campaign, and spread the word! You can read more here: http://www.greenpeace.org.uk/arctic
It was decided that we should have an online presence, to help us contact and recruit others, and make announcements, etc. As the only one of our little band who is on Facebook (NOT the way the ratio normally goes), I have been put in charge of setting up and maintaining our Facebook page, which you can check out here: https://www.facebook.com/CambridgeGreenpeace
We are having our first meeting in July, and we’re going to take it from there. It’s both exciting and scary, trying to make such a big difference, and setting up a whole new group, but I’m sure we’ll rise to the challenge.
