Hi All

Thanks to everyone for coming to the meeting last night, and especially to Tali for giving us the run down on the new Common Fisheries Policy campaign ( http://bit.ly/mQm7Ry ) and to Jenna for telling us all about her adventures in the Arctic on board the Greenpeace ship - Esperanza (and a variety of other vessels!) ( http://bit.ly/j9qbRy )

As discussed, here are the dates for your diary:

  • Waveney Greenpeace Festival - 4th September, Henham Park, Suffolk
  • Thames Festival - 10th/11th September, Southbank, London
  • Quiz night in support of Rainbow Warrior III - 14 September, 7-11pm, Hanbury Arms, Islington, London
  • Skillshare - 1st Oct 10am-5.30pm, Islington, London

Waveney Greenpeace Festival

Waveney will be taking place on the 4th of September in Suffolk on the same site as Latitude festival. The fair is organised by the local Greenpeace network and has been one of our major fundraiser events for the last few years. We're looking for people to help out with the campaign stall which will focus on the Common Fisheries Policy campaign ( http://bit.ly/mQm7Ry ) but will possibly involve other things. The fair runs from 11h00 to 23h00 (although stall will close at 19h00) on the Sunday 4th. In the past volunteers have arrived on the Saturday, helped set up stall and whatever else might need doing and then camp onsite. It would be great if this could happen again this year. We will cover food and travel costs within reason. To volunteer, please contact Sebastian at sebastian.seeney@greenpeace.org and please copy me in at neiljones78@gmail.com

Thames Festival

The Thames festival will taking place on the 10th/11th September in London. Here again we’re also looking for people to help with the CFP campaign. The plan is to have the stall open from 10h00 to around 19h00. We're hoping to have enough people to split both days into two shifts of about 4h30 hours. An allowance for food will be given however we won’t be able to cover travel expenses or provide accommodation. To volunteer, please contact Sebastian at sebastian.seeney@greenpeace.org and please copy me in at neiljones78@gmail.com

Quiz Night

The quiz night will run between 7pm - 11pm on Wednesday 14th September at The Hanbury Arms Pub - nearest tubes are Angel & Old Street. There'll be a cash bar on the night and free entry to the quiz but we'll be taking donations towards completing our new ship - Rainbow Warrior 3. This should be loads of fun, so if you want to be on the Camden Greenpeace Quiz Team, contact me at neiljones78@gmail.com

Skillshare

On Saturday 1st October Greenpeace will be holding their annual skill-share event in Islington. It's an opportunity for local supporters in London, the South-East and the East of England to get together to take part in debates, learn new skills and generally get to know each other a little better. The event takes place from 10am to 5.30pm. It is completely free to attend and there is even a free lunch, normally of a very tasty veggie/vegan variety. You can even get your travel expenses reimbursed if you produce a valid receipt. What's more you can vote on which workshops you'd like them to run - now that is democratic! To cast your vote please visit http://www.doodle.com/n2mekpk8ezk7xcs6 . You don't have to have taken part in a Greenpeace campaign, been to a meeting or even met any of us before to take part in this event. In fact we'd really love to see some new faces down there - it would be a really good introduction to how to get more involved in Greenpeace and a great way to make new friends too! If you are interested in attending this event please email me at neiljones78@gmail.com by Thursday 15th September.

AOB

I think with so much going on between now and the next meeting, and with a bank holiday thrown in, can I suggest that we leave the campaigning in Camden until after our next meeting.

I will also be contacting some of you directly by email to take part in a weekday evening activity over the next couple of weeks.

Thanks to those of you who volunteered to help us keep the pressure up on Volkswagen ( http://www.vwdarkside.com/en ) We look forward to hearing how you got on at the next meeting.

The London Greenpeace networks now have our own YouTube channel, you can subscribe here: http://www.youtube.com/user/GreenpeaceUKLondon We'll be filming all of our activities in future, so if you have any filming/editing experience please get in touch as your experience will come in very handy.

While you are online reading this, please take 30 seconds to follow this link to add your name to the Detox petition - calling for sports companies to tackle the toxic problem they're casuing to China's rivers and lakes: http://bit.ly/nrqkMe

Our next meeting is on 13th September, 7pm, upstairs at the Crown & Goose pub in Camden: http://bit.ly/oKIdmX

If I've forgotten to mention something, please add it to the comments below.

Cheers!

Neil
