Go Beyond Oil Campaigning by Camden Canal

Posted by PhoebeCarolanne - 27 March 2011 at 6:50pm - Comments

Today five of us set up stall by the main canal running through Camden.  It was a beautifully sunny day and the Springtime vibe was definitely in the air.  Our afternoon's objective was to ask passersby to sign (and colour, if they so chose) postcards to their local MPs as part of Greenpeace's "Go Beyond Oil" campaign that requests for the government to make the Energy Bill as green as possible, not just a scam.  Postcards were written from citizens coming from Sheffield to Belfast to our local London boroughs.  Many creative rainbows were drawn too, all ready to be sent off.  We collected a total of around 70 postcards.  We suspect that some passersby did not approach us because they thought we were trying to get money for our cause.  The group reflected that perhaps we could make it clear (through a banner) that we were only interested in increasing public support and awareness, not receiving donations.  However, a fun, stunning and worthwhile day that we all hope will help us in our goal to really making the UK go beyond oil.
