Well done to Larissa, Clara, Antonio and me :) for making a good start on the new Go Beyond Oil street campaign.
After having our time cut short in our first position by an officious street warden (who threatened us with an £80 fine for daring to put a table on Camden High Street!) we eventually settled on a nice spot in the sun by the canal at Camden Lock. In the two hours we had left, we got 35 postcards to MPs signed with some beautiful rainbows handpainted on the front of them.
Each postcard is addressed to individual MPs and asks them what they plan to do to transform the upcoming energy bill from one that is severely lacking in firm measures to combat climate change, to one that we would expect form the 'greenest government ever'. For example, moving from incentives for deepwater drilling for dirty oil to real support for renewables, and from hidden subsidies for nuclear power to transforming the UK to a thriving low carbon economy.
Thanks once again to those who came along. There will be more opportunities to campaign with us soon, to help get the support we need to move the UK beyond oil.
