1) Changes to group communication

We decided that we would move all our group communication over to the Greenpeace website, using our fantastic group page put together by Sabrina & Annie on the new Get Active facility. This means we will no longer be using Yahoo Groups to communicate. If you haven't already registered on Get Active, and joined the Camden group, please do this now:

a) Follow this link http://www.greenpeace.org.uk/og/subscribe/24514

This will take you to the Greenpeace website, where you will be asked to register with Get Active. Just click 'Register', put your details in and follow the instructions (It would be really helpful if you choose a username that we can recognise you by).

b) Once you have done this, you will then need to join the Camden group on the site.  The easiest way to do that is to come back to this message and click the link above again. You'll then be asked to join the Camden group.

c) And once you have done that, click 'My Account', then 'My Groups', and check that the option 'Always send email notifications for new group content' has been selected.

>>>Even if you have already registered, please check that the final step has been done.  We don't want you to miss out on any important group updates!

The new site does everything Yahoo does, and a lot more.  From the menu bar on the right hand side, you can send emails to the group, post blogs with photos and videos, comment on other people's blog posts, create events, and more!

2) Film Showing Tonight - Food Inc - Monday 15th Feb, 6.30pm

Some of us will be going to see Robert Kenner's new film about the industrial production of food in the US tonight.  It looks really good.  It's showing at the Islington Vue at 6.30pm, so meeting at 6.20pm in the foyer. More details on our website here and on the Vue website here.  If you're planning on going too, email Veronica: vpasteur@yahoo.com

3) Trident

Despite being faced with massive cuts in public spending, despite Obama and Putin talking about multilateral nuclear disarmament, and despite Generals and Field Marshalls questioning its relevance to 21st century defence, the UK government plans to spend up to £97billion on replacing the Trident nuclear warhead system.  More details here

We will be arranging a weekday evening stickering event to support a new Greenpeace Trident campaign, which is due to launch imminently.  If you would like to help with this, please fill in your availability on this doodle. You just need to put your name in the box, tick the days you are available and click save.  When the most popular date emerges, we'll get in touch with more details.

Greenpeace will also be doing online acitvity as part of this campaign so if you're particularly keen on peace and disarmament and fancy this, contact Laura for more details.

4) Airplot

66,000 people have already become beneficial owners of the Airplot, thanks in part to all the campaigning we have been doing.  We now need to reach out to even more people to reach our goal of 100,000.  So, we are going to start as many 'interest groups' as possible, such as Cyclists Against the Third Runway and Hula Hoopers Against the Third Runway. At the meeting we discovered that we have fiddlers, film makers, physicists, goths, photographers, artists, motorcyclists, gardeners, drinkers, hikers, journalists and dancers, all of which would make fantastic interest groups.  If you have any more ideas, please email Laura or Neil, or better still, start a Facebook group.  There's a toolkit here with lots of good ideas to help you get started.  Let us know how you get on.

Have you ever wanted to build a fortress?  There's a new competition (well, 2 actually) to design an activist base to be built on the Airplot, to help us defend it from those who want to come and build a runway there.  There's one competition for architects, and one for everyone else. It will be judged by Rachel Whiteread, Alistair McGowan and leading architects.  So get your thinking caps on.  More details here.

We will be recruiting more beneficial owners on the streets of Camden on Saturday 20th Feb, meeting at 12pm.  Please add your name to this Doodle, tick the box, and click save if you can make it.

5) Ask the climate question

With the general election looming, now is a crucial time to get political parties to take a strong stance on climate change, and ensure that environmental issues are at the top of their agendas.  This is even more important in constituencies that have small majorities, where the competition is going to be tough and high profile.  Lucky for us, we have one of these key seats on our doorstep in Hampstead & Kilburn, where Glenda Jackson (Lab) will be battling it out with Ed Fordham (LibDem) and Chris Philp (Con). As part of the 'Ask the Climate Question' coalition with other organisations like RSPB, Christian Aid, Oxfam and Tearfund, Greenpeace has been asked to focus on the H&K constituency in the run up to the election, so we need to think of some creative ways to remind the candidates that tackling climate change should be their top priority.  Let us know if you have any great ideas, the cheekier and more fun the better!

6) Interested in ethical fashion?

UCL are holding their annual fashion show at the Hotel Russell on Sunday 28th February.  The theme this year is 'Green', and we have been invited to have a stall for campaigning there.  If you are interested contact Laura or Neil.
