.....without the rum
.....and a very cold.....you get the picture!
The Canterbury Greenpeace group joined other organisations at the National Climate March on Saturday 1st December in London, Grosvenor Square. What we lacked in numbers we made up in sheer resilience against frozen toes and icy fingers.
The day included building a "Grosvenor Square Keystone pipeline" between the Canadian High Commission and the US embassy to highlight the exploitation of high-carbon tar sands and the continued involvement of the US and Canadian embassy. Then to top it all off (and regain some blood flow to our extremities) we marched to Parliament
The march was organised by Campaign against Climate Change and focused on the escalation of the climate crisis, disappearance of Arctic sea ice, increasing food prices and also local campaigns such as the destructive practice of 'hydraulic fracturing' or "fracking" for previously un-tappable "shale gas".
It was as usual a good chance to see familiar faces and get involved in a bit of direct action. However it had a sobering undertone that highlighted the frustrating situation we find ourselves in with national and global energy policies. Lets hope someone out there was listening.
