Waitrose and Save The Arctic

Waitrose

In September 2011 Waitrose began to pilot Waitrose branded retail outlets within Shell garages. So far there are 2 such stores at Shell garages in Bayswater and Watford. Our understanding is that a decision has not yet been taken on whether to open more stores at garages so we want to try and influence this decision.

We have contacted Waitrose three times since April 2012 raising our concerns and requesting a meeting. Waitrose have not agreed to meet us and have written to us saying that Shell have been given permission to explore the Arctic, implying that Shell's permission is evidence of their rightness in doing so.

That's not good enough and we believe that Waitrose's decision to partner with Shell is inconsistent with their ethical and environmental reputation. We are asking Waitrose to end the relationship.

We will be at Waitrose in New Dover Road on Saturday 8th December at 10am.
