The Arctic is warming and as the sea ice melts the oil companies are moving north. They're determined to to drill for the same fossil fuels that caused the melting in the first place. Leading the push is Shell.
On Sunday September 15th - that's the date that we expect the summer ice extent to reach it's minimum - we are creating something spectacular.
We invite you to walk with Aurora: the awe-inspiring, double-decker bus-sized bear. In her fur Aurora will be carrying over 3 million names of people who support keeping the Arctic as a global sanctuary.
Inspired by steampunk art, she is part ship and part polar bear. She will be operated by 15 puppeteers, and will be pulled by 20-30 people. She has been designed by prop makers who have worked with Alexander McQueen and the Royal Opera House. She will be made from a mixture of reclaimed materials from ships and other vehicles.
We have organised a coach from Canterbury. Let me know that you can make it, the suggested contribution towards the travel cost is £10.
We want you to walk and dance with Aurora, take pictures and support the campaign to save the Arctic.
This will be a day to remember, it will be the day that you can tell your grandchildren: I was with Greenpeace on the day that we persuaded Shell to abandon the destruction of the planet.
