We're often cynically told that green issues are of no interest to 'ordinary' people especially in these austere times. And yet today in Swansea , South Wales, a large number people came forward to Greenpeace's I love the Arctic campaign and signed up to what they all assured us was a very worthy cause. The recent cold weather had made many people realise that climate change is not simply the local weather getting hotter but major disruptions to the climate causing changes to the complicated eco systems around the Earth. Films such as Chasing Ice have also reached a large audience alerting them to the frightening speed with which the Arctic is melting and bringing a polar bear along always attracts a crowd! It is on occasions like this we can all feel hope for the world and for the Arctic in particular. Special thanks to all who helped on the day and especially Alison Broady for setting the whole thing up.
