Finding Friends in St Mawes

"Hi I'm Clarence the Cornish Cod, protect me and my adorable fishbeard!"

“Looks like you’re the catch of the day!”

Ladies and gentlemen, boys and girls, the Cornwall group are proud to present...Clarence the Cornish Cod! Somehow we managed to squeeze Ellie, Colin, Vicki and Becky underneath our fishy friend (with Colin forced to wear the tail as a helmet-cum-pashmina) to drive to St Mawes for our second CFP campaign stall.

We were lucky for another day of bright sunshine, and the attention strolling from the car park to where we set up the stall was very positive. However, when we got down to the harbour, a strong breeze nearly blew our banner and Clarence (plus human companion) away! It was all fine though, and we soon had people popping over to find out what we wanted to say.

Most people were very interested and helpful; with the plight of the fishermen such a poignant local issue, we soon had a wad of fishcards signed and coloured in.

Zoe joined us and took over from Colin for a stint in the cod, though her little daughter really didn’t know what to make of the giant fish!

A familiar face popped by after a couple of hours; a fisherman we had seen at our last campaign stall, and who is flying our orange flag proudly on his boat.

In total we got 112 cards signed to add to the pile to give to our local MEP later this year.

Despite our success, this stall was somewhat bittersweet; it was group member Ellie’s last one as she’s off on many exciting adventures. Good luck Ellie – Kefalonia, Australia, then the world!

Thanks to everyone that visited and helped with the stall.

Please watch the video below. 'The Last Fisherman' looks at our troubled waters, and the massive blow to British maritime tradition if the policy does not change. These fishermen need friends, and we CAN do something about it!
