A bear hug from Paula

Playing Place Shell garage: we’re coming for you...again. And this time, we’re not alone.

Saturday morning was bright and crisp, and was the setting for Cornwall group’s third peaceful Save the Arctic protest, accompanied by the famous and fuzzy Paula Bear!

We had quite a little crowd show to tout banners and wave placards, hand out flyers and wave to traffic. Our ursine companion attracted a lot of attention, with passersby, people waiting at a nearby bus stop and even drivers rushing over to get a bear hug!

One female admirer was especially excited, squealing "I've been asking my husband to get one of these for my birthday - I've always wanted a hug from a bear - but here you are right now!"

Most people were extremely positive, with several drivers pulling in just to tell us how much they support the campaign – leaving the forecourt without filling up, of course! Details were handed out, and hopefully a couple of new faces will appear at the next meeting.

Partway through our vigil, a member of the local press joined us for a couple of snaps and a comment or two; Paula was catching everyone’s eye!

After an afternoon of horn-tooting, we rounded up with our polar bear saying farewell by taking to the roadside with a stuck out thumb – or paw equivalent – and a card marked “Arctic”.

Thanks to everyone that helped with the protest, to all those who have since signed up to support our Save the Arctic campaign, and watch this space for future events!
