Yesterday, two of us headed off to the site to be met by 200 or so committed villagers who had camped and congregated by the main gate. A large low-loader type vehicle was imobilised and prevented access to the site. Most of the protesters were locals from Balcombe and nearby villages.
Today-Thursday-many of us witnessed villagers and their supporters attempting to deny entrance to the fracking and drilling site. The large tree trunk positioned there was removed following 14 arrests of concerned locals and protesters. Following the removal of the tree trunk attempts were made to deny access to a Mobil lubricants lorry and other equipment vehicles. Songs of protest were sung and shouts of "we dont want you here" were aimed at drivers. Some very angry people were heard protesting at the arrests and the concern was voiced that water supplies would be contaminated here as they were in the United States.
