Apple Tree Twinning

Posted by janetmiller - 29 November 2009 at 4:31pm - 0 Comments
Yesterday saw the first snow of the winter here in Buxton, but today the weather was kind to us, and it was fine and dry when we gathered at the United Reformed Church to plant our apple tree. A lot of tree twinnings around the country have involved politicians, but there's a bit of a shortage of them in the High Peak just now - the incumbent MP Tom Levitt wasn't in town, isn't standing at the next election, and in any case has swallowed the whips' nonsense about Heathrow's 3rd Runway being a green one; we don't have a Lib Dem candidate at the moment for reasons that, however tempting, we won't go into here; the Conservative candidate (the only one left standing) wasn't available either, prefering to jet off on a short City Break somewhere. So Charles Jolly, Greenpeace supporter and church member, did the honours, planting the tree and unveiling the commemorative plaque in fine style, ably assisted by Nathan holding the twinning sign. Who needs politicians anyway?!
